But once you have bought your house, you are free to open or lock the doors as you please. There is no one telling you when you can open or close the door, or giving you curfew schedules to live by. Imagine if the house builder, or the architect, had a remote link with which he could prevent you from entering your home at certain times. Or could prevent you from allowing guests of your choosing to enter. That wouldn't increase the value of the home. I think the obnoxious part of copy protection schemes is that the wrong people allow themselves to make illegal decisions. The perfect example being the way TV stations, willfully or not, determine whether a show can be time-shift recorded. The courts have said this must be allowed. End of story. And yet, for some inexplicable reason, TV stations often don't allow it. And CE manufacturers allow this illegal activity to go on. There should absolutely never be a way for a TV station to successfully transmit "copy never." It's very simple. So why do CE manufacturers, including Philips, allow this illegal behavior? It doesn't help much to say, "Oh, sorry, we didn't know we were doing that." If the system is so easily abused by the stations, it is broken, IMO. I'm sure you're right when you say a well designed system would be unintrusive. Such a scheme hasn't been devised yet, as far as I can tell. > -- Jeroen, who also uses DVD Decrypter on a regular basis... Yes, exactly my point.
