Tom, What market are you in, and what two stations? It is possible, as Craig writes, that retrans consent allows, but very unlikely, unless these two stations are out of DMA. Most O&O's would never allow the native feed to be encrypted, and most affiliates wouldn't want to give up that right, if the network even gave them the option too. I would enquire with the stations if they know this is happening. The other thing that could have happened is that the cable company move the content to a different QAM. This sounds to be the most possible situation considering that you are talking about 2 broadcasters. Have you tried re-scanning the TV? I know of some stations that gave up their rights for HD carriage in order to gain out-of-market carriage, but never with a major network within their DMA. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Craig Birkmaier" <craig@xxxxxxxxx> To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, April 28, 2010 8:13:16 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: [opendtv] Re: My Jax clear QAM HD went away At 9:59 PM -0400 4/27/10, Tom Barry wrote: >I've previously been skeptical here that the cable companies would start >encrypting the network channels. Chalk up another victim of Retransmission consent. Now that the cable companies are paying the broadcaster for their content, they have both the incentive, and most likely contractual rights, to limit access to the HD version for customers paying those fees. The lifeline customers continue to get 4:3 SD, but you must pay for digital to get digital...
