Somehow I'll bet that local campus cable is the wild card in the
equation killing the need for OTA.

I'm not clear whether Cox in Gainesville offers NBC, CW, and MNT only encrypted, in digital, or not at all. I assume that, being basically OTA channels everywhere else, you would be able to receive them on your PCHD card if the Cox system carried them at all.

So, if this assumption is right, no Fox HD, and no NBC, CW, or MNT in digital of any type.

From this, I can only conclude that these broadcasters are still not placing a lot of importance on their digital streams, and figure that the basic grainy analog version available over the Cox analog tier is all the Gainesville residents need. Surely, these U of F students of have digital sets or PC cards for TV?

My expectation is that this situation will change by itself. Those broadcasters will likely see those CEA figures on digital set sales, and will either insist that Cox carry them, or they would start threatening to install their own OTA transmitters.

Is there some sort of Chamber of Commerce you can go to, and throw a temper tantrum?

Speaking of, I have a request for Mark Aitken. See, the MHz Networks station is way out west of here, entirely in the "wrong" direction, and I need to use a VHF omni to pick it up. Not entirely reliable. So would you guys mind adding France 24 to one of your stations? You could add a third multicast to either CW 54 or Fox 45 without dropping anything. For instance, send that instead of the SD version of your 54-1 channel, which is usually or often on another 54 subchannel.

You would provide this useful service for Baltimore without annoying MHz Networks. And it does transmit in English after 2 AM UTC.
