But now it's harder (not impossible) to offer HD streams for both CW and ABC, on WCJB-DT. Also, the CW network here sends a music video multicast The Tube on their -2 subchannel, but perhaps that's a local decision. Veronica Mars is on the CW network. It is available in HD over here. Over there, as a secondary multicast for WCJB, it is evidently not available in HD, so Cox has no incentive to provide Veronica Mars in HD either. > NBC is not in this market because the network refuses to sign > up an affiliate, choosing instead to protect the distribution > agreement between WESH in Orlando and Cox cable. To me, that stinks of kickback. This sort of "distribution agreement" is precisely what would end FOTA TV in the US. Nothing to do with ATSC or 8-VSB. Everything to do with shady deals. > Pure economics Bert. with 93% cable penetration there is > little reason to expand OTA options, and NBC.WESH are > obviously the ones on the take. Cart before horse. The 93 percent penetration is a result of inadequate OTA choice, but I would have to agree that if anyone is on the take, it must be someone associated with NBC, and that Cox is making it attractive to them. Still, my inclination would not be to cave in and just accept it. To me, *that's* extortion.
