The error is that BBC DTV does not support 14:9 as a display aspect
ratio, as the standard I posted proved.

The wide screen display DTV aspect ratio is 16:9 all over the world.
When the Grand Alliance picked that ratio, it was because analog
wide screen displays were already available of that size.

Obviously, if you happen to be transmitting some other ratio, it
can be displayed on the 16:9 screen.

The article I was responding to neglected to mention this FACT.
There's no reason to assume that a wide screen production must
look smaller when you see it at home, as the article stated.
DTV screens are migrating to 16:9, although slower that might
have been the case had the standard been de jure rather than de
facto.
