Among them are the frame rate and its presentation on your screen ("2-3 pulldown" in the case of film or 24p video), grey-scale transfer characteristic, appearance of grain and its random characteristics (as opposed to the fixed-pixel grid of digital video), etc. And all of that aside, your original comments on NCIS ("dark and murky") could have reflected an intentional decision on the part of the director.
