Not to me it isn't. More like the other way around.
What it says to me is "let's stop pushing the same old
tired notions when they are clearly not correct."
Isn't anybody interested in finding out what the
*real* problem is?
To me, incessant harping about "we should have gone
DVB-T" is synonimous with "we might as well roll over
and play dead, because there's no way this will work."
When in fact, DVB-T has nothing to do with it anymore.
Even if there might have been some reason to think that
way in 1999, those days are long gone. The issue now
is something else, and is exemplified ever so clearly
by LG's lack of up-to-date ATSC product for FOTA
application. Not even an up to date DVR, for heaven's
sake.
In light of this, in light of completely clueless
salespeople at high end stores, in light of almost
total lack of ATSC STBs in big box stores (I'll check
Circuit City this weekend), lack of latest generation
STBs anywhere, lack of advertizing of these by
broadcasters and retail stores alike, is it possible
anyone can still think that DVB-T would have made a
difference?
I find myself being more enthusiastic about OTA TV than
many broadcasters, and that's truly depressing.
As I've already indicated, I don't consider the
differences between DVB-T and ATSC to be significant.
Merely some slight differences in the application layer
and a difference which is becoming insignificant in the
physical layer. Small potatoes. Let's fix the real
logjam, shall we?
Thank goodness for Michael Powell and his FCC. They
might be the only thing to save OTA TV in the US.
