I have noticed macroblocking in fades, but not much at all in the fast motion. And this is with the weather channel still being transmitted in the multiplex. Made me wonder why WRC-DT, and O&O, isn't transmitting some of tgeir additional Olypmics coverage on that SD subchannel instead of the weather? If there's so much material, why not show it off? The HD from NBC is mostly wonderful, IMO. Bright and sharp as a tack, a real pleasure. And just to show what it was really like in the bad old days of analog low fidelity TV, they had a clip of Mark Spitz earning one of his gold medals back in 1972. What a difference. I can't fathom that anyone really preferred that small, fuzzy, grainy picture. Not sure what new techniques have to be developed for doing fades without macroblocking. All I can think of is that the signal has to be progressively more prefiltered while being faded out.
