Well, you might not know that Paido's sword is magical (unless you have Divination) and might want to engage with a "proper" magical item. > Moreover, if you are foolish enough to have lost the Sommerswerd > on previous adventures, that would be a terrible mistake > for the forces of Ishir! :) Are you sure about that? I just tried to play through #9 "The Caverns of Fear" and it turns out that if you *have* the Sommerswerd there are slim chances of you finishing the book if you don't have great stats. In section 258 (start of the fight against Zakhan Kimah) if you have the Sommerswerd you end up fighting a 40 CS / 50 END enemy, if you don't (but have either the Dagger of Vashna or the Psychic Ring) you will fight a 34 / 50 enemy (and can even kill him with a single attack if you use the Dagger). "My" Lone Wolf character, with basic CS of 14 + bonifications (magic helmet, shield, sommerswerd, circle of fire...) ends up with a CS of 30 there is no way I'm going to kill this guy (over -11 penalty in combat even if I use Alether) unless I'm *extremely* lucky. Makes you want *drop* the Sommerswerd along the way. I wonder why there is no section you can land on if you have *both* the Psychic Ring and the Sommerswerd, as the Psychic Ring (section 188) increases your powers and enables you to downplay his Magic shield and use Psi-surge/Psi-blast against him.... I think that is an error too, and it makes it very difficult to end the game if you did not start up LW#1 with great stats and got lots of bonuses (i.e. play Lone Wolf "Munchkin style").
