You sometimes get into trouble by using the Sommerswerd.  For instance, in 
section 221, if you use the Sommerswerd for the fight, the Deathlord kills you 
immediately afterwards.  This makes me think that you can use the Sommerswerd 
without penalty if the book doesn't tell you to do something special if you use 
it.  (If the book never mentioned the Sommerswerd again after you were warned 
not to use it, I'd be more likely to consider the lack of mentioning to be an 
error.)
