That’s why I really want mini camp , training camp, HOF game and pre-season.
Get all these guys with new OC on same page. Hopefully by Aug you can make a
decision on QBs. Is Mason your bargain future QB , is Haskins able to be saved
... and I think Dobbs is Batch. Smart QB you keep around to help coach on the
bench but if Haskins looks good hard to not keep him and Mason all season to
compete.

Rudolph is in the last year of his Rookie deal and it takes him a while to get
acclimated to a situation. I think this situation is taylor-made for the
Steelers and for Rudolph. He makes good money while learning and is ready to
go at any time (and there is a school of thought that says it's open
competition in camp for the first time in ages), he makes great money in the
last Rookie year, and he's going to get a backup deal that will exceed the
income of what many QBs made as Starters just years ago, still stay in the same
system and be handed the keys to an offense (that he may be better at already
than Ben) three years from now. Not a bad deal, I say.

I don't know if this has any basis in fact, buuuuuut...
Ben is the cornerstone. That's a given. Rudolph could, conceivably, be pissed
off and thinking "Jesus, am I going to get my damned shot or what??" Haskins is
happy that an esteemed organization has taken a chance on him and is going to
give everything his all (best case scenario). Dobbs could find work elsewhere
and he knows it. He's cool. So...
One of these things is not like the others. Maybe (cue rampant speculation)
Mason sees the Steelers keeping Ben for at LEAST another year, putting his shot
off another 365. Then they take a flyer on Haskins. Mason understandably thinks
"great, I'm gonna have to sing for my supper AGAIN". In view of this, maybe
Mason is fed up and says "look, I'm out, just trade me. I want to play."
Whether or not the team sees this, they look at the situation and think "we GOT
Ben; we're gambling on Haskins; and we can have Dobbs for a song. And if we DO
that, we got Rudolph, who we can get a pretty good return on in a trade."
The team seems to be in the driver's seat with these four on the payroll. What
am I not taking into consideration?

Vince coming back is huge, lessens the need for them to find a partner for Bush
as well in the top half of the draft.
Dobbs coming back is interesting, they now have 4 QB’s in the room, with
Haskins as the low risk / high reward outsider.
