Flor, what you are stating is very tru not only of blind students but of the general student body. I have heard it said that to grasp a good knowledge of any language it is essential to write and read the subject matter in order to improve proficiency of spelling, grammer and understanding. the purest example of this is the read and write projects around the country for people with literacy problems Gerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Flor Lynch" <florlync@xxxxxx>

Philip, I'm hopig this second attempt will get the message to list. No, it hasn't yet 'put paid to' braille. one of the reasons braile is so expensive is because people think that it has. Blind folk with less hearing still need to have braille from their computers. Braille is still used by blind computer users at work in non-English-speaking countries. There's also an argument gaining currency that children need to be able to really read - which they cannot do by only listening to speech - in order to attain true or adequate literacy.----- Original Message -----

It's only people of a certain age who would use it these days, speaking for myself, it's still my favourite option.
