Not sure Tim, I suspect it could be though.
The app description also described it as a research project, which makes
perfect sense, but raised an eyebrow all the same :)
Plus anything offered by these companies as free should be taken as only free
in terms of money. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but we should be aware.

You might be interested to know that Microsoft’s Seeing AI app is now
available here in Ireland.
The app does live text recognition with the camera, OCR on documents, barcode
recognition, and image recognition. It seems pretty powerful for a free app,
though of course I’m sure you’re paying with your data instead of cash.
I’ve only had a quick look so far but it looks pretty good. I successfully
read the packaging on a Marks & Spencer’s meal with the live text recognition
for example :)
