Hi Dónal,

Sorry if you've solved this already and if the info is too late but the Windows 
Transfer Tool built in to Windows 7 and 8 is designed to do exactly what you 
need.

There is also a version of it for XP. I've used it for my last two PC upgrades 
and it has been perfect.
