What effect did you try? For a wha-wha like effect I would try the EQ with a low-pass filter and relatively hiigh-ish Q and then link the centre frequency to the pedal and play with the min-max settings.

Essentially the single 'whua' you hear in wha-wha is the filter frequency increasing and with a decent resonance (Q) somewhat emulating what happens with vocal formants when we speak :-) (of course it also depends on the source sound, so in this case the instrument you are using).

I am assuming here you have a midi foot controller which is like an actual wha pedal i.e. it is sending continuous controllers, if you meant the pedal is just turning on/off an effect like the alienwha or the DynFilter which has some cool wha-like presets. Use the it on the insert and send it to the Master out, then midi learn the Dry/Wet (labelled D/W) to the pedal.

Yes.

Set up the effect in System Effects 1
Then MIDI-learn the part System Effect Sends 1 control.

You can also do something similar with the Insertion Effects, but this time it
will tend to keep the overall volume the same.
