OK, here's a suggested patch for the window title. For example:

# window title = "Synth 1", using name tag parameter
yoshimi -N "Synth 1" &

# window title = "Yoshimi: params-x"
# this is the existing behaviour using the load parameters flag
yoshimi -l /mnt/yoshimi/params-x.xmz &

# window title = "Synth 1: params-x", using both
yoshimi -N "Synth 1" -l /mnt/yoshimi/params-x.xmz &

Let me know if this is OK.

Brendan,

Each .xmz file is just a single instrument, no more, no less, right?

No an xmz file is a complete parameter block, consisting of a variable number
of instruments, effects and routings. Individual instruments are xiz files, but
even these still include the instrument kit (if it has one).

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
