Also to add to this, often there will be separate versions
of software for 32 and 64 bit, jaws is one that comes to
mind and also winrar, java is another one. You'll have to be
careful.

Hi Jeff.

If you have 4GB or less of Ram in a machine, its probably
best to go for 32bit. 64bit is for computers with more than
4GB of ram. If you have old scanners and printers, generally
they'll work on windows7 32bit but not on windows7 64bit.
most modern hardware that's been made in the last 5 years or
so supports 64bit windows so you should be fine. As for
programs, windows7 64bit can be used with older 32bit
programs, but may not work with every single older program
depending on when it was released. 64bit isn't really faster
on 4GB of ram systems you see the difference when you've got
6GB of ram or more.
