Hmm, Douglas, you told me that there was a check box in an earlier message, so I'm puzzled too. Why not give NVDA a go and see if it will pick it up. NVDA works very well under Vista, at least in Home Premium it does anyway. Good luck.

Many thanks for trying again, Chris, but I must be "thicker" than I thought or have a mental block here! I may be almost there, but the last step defeats
me.

When I press Shift, Control and Tab I am on an Advanced property sheet.
The only way forward seemed to be to activate a button labelled "Advanced
Feature Settings". This takes me to two property sheets, one labelled
Touch Pad and the second "Other". Neither seems to have the Check box I
need.

Any idea where I am going wrong? I suppose that it could be that the
screen reader I am using (Hal 8) is not picking something up - if necessary I
will install something like NVDA and see if I have any more luck.

Thanks anyway,

Douglas

Douglas, you're almost there! Go back into your mouse, hardware and sounds screen, shift control tab once, and uncheck that "use touch pad" check box. Press enter, and see if your touch pad has indeed been turned off. What I do to confirm is to press one of the touch pad buttons to see if JAWS responds
with "context menu", or whatever. Good luck!
