Most times this works for me also, but sometimes we know we've left plenty of time and still she won't say "Good evening"!
Anyway, we're just treating her with care, not rushing her and being very thankful we have something onto which to record - at last!

One thing I have noticed is that pressing buttons on the remote during the Tvonics boot up significantly increases the likelihood of getting no speech. A quick turn off (standby) and on again always works for me.
