I returned my Echo because I hated the app, it drove me bananas to start
with. But I decided to purchase the Dot, one because it is £100 cheaper,
and two because it has an audio connection that lets you put it through a
hifi system or something.
So it arrived this morning, and I've had a lot more fun with it this time
round. I set up the Dot with the Alexa app to start with, then went to
alexa.amazon.co.uk
This is much easier, as you can add Skills and search for them much quicker.
I found the app very stuttery, and wasn't always able to double-tap on icons
to move about properly.
I like the size of the Dot, which I will use as an alarm clock. This means
I don't need to have my iPhone in the room overnight. I couldn't say for
definite whether you could set up the Dot or Echo on the above website
without a Smartphone, but I would think it is possible.
Both the Echo and Dot are mains only powered.

Thanks for the interesting and sometimes even amusing LOL posts here
recently.
I don't have a smart phone but only a laptop and a netbook so I wonder are
the Echo and Dot usable with them?
I wonder also as I have mobile broadband does the Echo/Dot work anywhere as
long as I have my wi Fi enabledor say if out and about using other Wi FI?
Finally do I need to download Alexa or is it there by default and using the
Echo or Dot have I then accessx to internet radio?
