No, don't give up. I sent the Echo back, one because I thought it was
over-priced, and two because I hated the app. But I decided to go for the
Dot instead, and only used the app to set it up. I agree it isn't great
with VoiceOver, but you should be able to at least get the WiFi side of it
going, then go to the website and do the rest from there.
I'm sure others will chime in with getting you going too.

the dot as yet.
The app is not fully accessible with voice over.
I can only get so far with the setup process, and the app tells me the setup
cannot be completed.
I feel like returning the product to Amazon, but have since found out I no
longer have the packaging, as the box it came in has been unfortunetly
thrown out with the rubbish, and guess what, yes the bin men have taken it
