Hi Carol.I've been using jaws and the major screen readers for years with thunderbird without any problems! i'm surprised you couldn't get it to work. in the past, i've made sure jaws works then sent people a portable version which they can both install to their computer, and use on a pen. If you don't mind, i'll give you a call tomorrow to discuss this further, is there any particular time that's convenient? drop me a note off list if you wish. as for the thunderbird file, i've yet to test the latest version properly once i have i'll see about posting the portable copy to list. it seems to work a lot better than outlook. i've been using it since 2004 i think it must be. outlook was always too clunky for me not to mention the fact i was tied to 1 system and couldn't carry a copy with me on a pen.
all the best, Mo. On 06/01/2013 20:31, Carol Pearson wrote:
Hi mo, That looks fairly comprehensive but a lot of work for me, and I don't want to bother to do it, so perhaps I'll give Thunderbird another try. By the way, What I really disliked was that I wasn't able to use Jaws with Thunderbird. Does that still stand, or can I make Jaws my speech screen reader? You may like to call me to take this off list, and any help you can give, will of course, be much appreciated. Thanks. I found this link which provides instructions on creating a macro to take care of the deletion process. As i said, i haven't used outlook on purpose for years, and strongly recommend people switch to thunderbird for quite a few reasons but that's just my opinion. the link is: http://lifehacker.com/5555291/how-make-gmail-play-nicely-with-your-desktop-email-client Mo. I sort of get round it by moving my messages to my bin folder which is the one that I use when on the phone, but it doesn't work well and I hate Outlook with a positive hate athe moment! Mo, or anyone else, if you find a fix for this, I'm interested too, so please keep at least the results on lists! Thanks! When I open it, then the Gmail folders are revealed pertaining to that account. My problem is deleting them in Outlook, I can't. I need to log into my Gmail account on the web, check every bloody box for each message, then delete. I just wish I didn't have to do that, but it's the only way I can get round it. What I have said remains strange in that I subscribed to the Eyes-Free mailing list using my BT account, but they all seem to come in under my Gmail account which I didn't even have at the time. Being quite honest about it, I don't keep that well, so my time on the PC per day is limited for fiddling around and persuading something to do what I want. Ho-hum, never mind! (smile). Something must be wrong in the settings somewhere. It's a bit of a long way round for a shortcut, but I checked all the messages, then deleted them in the way you suggested Andrew. Now my various folders in Outlook are cleaned out. I still wish I could have them come into my regular Inbox like all my other subscriptions are set to do, since I have rules assigned so each list has its own folder. But, hey, that's got rid of what I don't need for now, and I'll just keep on top of the traffic on the Gmail page now I know what happens. Thanks guys, great stuff. I'm not sure if i'm understanding you correctly, so please bare with me. I too can't seem to find an option to mark all the messages via the web, it must be a GMail bug. i'd hit control A to select all in the list view in outlook, and hit delete. The difference between pop and imap essentially is that pop was designed to download mail from a server to your computer, then the mail would either be deleted from the server or remain there for ever regardless if you deleted it on your PC, unless you expressly set server options manually. Imap is a lot more versitile. any actions you carry out on your PC are replicated in realtime to your mail on the server, its a lot more efficient. so in other words, unless you set outlook to keep a copy of mail on the server its deleted or moved to trash. you can also access all your folders via imap more efficiently, copy mail between folders, etc so the long and short of it is you've made an excellent choice by using imap. Also, if you use other devices and set your mail up via imap, any actions carried out on your other devices are also automatically carried out on your PC because it'll syncronise. I hope this all makes sense? what did you have trouble with when deleting using outlook? to speed things up, i'm more than happy to give you a call at your convenience so we can discuss this, just drop me a note off list. all the best, Mo. I can't seem to find the box tocheck them allon the website so I can delete them from the server, and Ican'tdelete them from Outlook in the same way I can with allstuff infolders from my regular Inbox. I hope this makes sense. Secondly, what is the difference between Imap and Pop,apart from theprotocols? I opted to route my Gmail account to Outlook2003 usingImap, and just wonder what the difference is in using itinstead of Pop.Thanks.
