Dear Ms. Carol,

so good to hear from you and to see you on. Yes, jaws is working with the Big Bird and actually does so quite well.

I'll get in touch about nvda's ENT problems with you off list. *smile*

hugs and smiles across the miles!

Hi Doris,

I am now trying out ThunderBird and hope I like it more than some others! I had used it in the past, when I started with NVDA and I was confused at that stage because NVDA was using its default synth, which I found to be awful. I therefore am glad to be corrected and find that Jaws does indeed work.

Thanks.

Dear Ms. Carol,

Why do you think you cannot use jaws with the Thunderbird email client?! Are you going by hearsay with this or have you actually tried?

While it is not my email client of choice (I am a long-time Eudora user) - Thunderbird certainly is and has been accessible with jaws and other screenreaders for several years, with and without special configuration files.

Gmail is no different to use with Thunderbird or other email clients than any other email account you want to use with an offline client. The only thing you need to know is the settings for setting up gmail and those are given online in gmail, along with, if I remember correctly, with exaples for popular email clients.

I have had a gmail account from pretty much when they first got started and were only available by invitation from other users. I have never seriously used Gmail thru its web interface but with Eudora and, very occasionally, thru outlook express when I set up their account for a friend.

Don't hesitate to try several email clients and settle for the one that works best for you.

Hi mo,

That looks fairly comprehensive but a lot of work for me, and I don't want to bother to do it, so perhaps I'll give Thunderbird another try. By the way, What I really disliked was that I wasn't able to use Jaws with Thunderbird. Does that still stand, or can I make Jaws my speech screen reader?

You may like to call me to take this off list, and any help you can give, will of course, be much appreciated.

Thanks. Carol P

I sort of get round it by moving my messages to my bin folder which is the one that I use when on the phone, but it doesn't work well and I hate Outlook with a positive hate athe moment! Mo, or anyone else, if you find a fix for this, I'm interested too, so please keep at least the results on lists! Thanks! Carol P
