ALL usb is backward compatible with USB 2. The plug is the same. The ONLY difference between the 2 is the huge speed increase; in most cases you won't even need this. I certainly wouldn't bother buying a USB 3 add-on card for an existing computer; they're still very expensive. If you have a USB 2 hub, it'll work with a USB 3 stick, and vice-versa.
