Hi all

I guess it depends on the college and the staff. Last year three students with
no sight achieved ECDL level 1. They are now working on level 2. Another
student with very little sight has achieved one level 1 module and will soon
take another exam.

A couple of years ago 2 students, one with no sight, achieved the full ECDL.

I work one to one with the students in their college session and they also
study at home. We don't tamper with the course or the papers. They are the same
for all students, with no sight or sighted. I do apply to the British Computer
Society for extra time of 33% so it's available if necessary. The students and
I know that their success has the same validity as the next person's success on
what is quite a demanding course of study.

Interestingly one student's sighted cousin is studying online. She occasionally
sends in completed work for marking and believes that she is passing the
modules. There is some small print in the website that mentions going to a test
centre to take exams but the rest of the website says that you are getting a
certificate but when you look closer it's a certificate from the company saying
that you have a completed a course of study with them.

Best wishes

Naomi

Yeah I bet they are Jim. I would only ever embark on such a course if I was
tied down kicking and screaming (smile.), but good luck if you manage it.

Whenever I hear of an institution saying they are putting together a package
of materials to make a course accessible, I hear an alarm bell in my head
that says oh no, not tampering with the real thing are you? That will make
the qualification really pretty pointless if it is adapted too much. Local
colleges try doing it all the time, and I must admit I was having none of
that in my time there. It was either working with the tools I had to
complete it in my own right or not at all. Work-arounds are acceptable, but
not revamping the course altogether.

Anyway good luck.

Jackie
