Hi Christine, I have a feeling though that the gap between the cost of rent and owned machine subscriptions is going to get wider as the years go on. So eventually, they will discourage you from renting. At first, the gap = was 10 quid, now it is 20. Personally, I prefer to buy my own machines. Daisy machines are pretty reliable, and if you get the Wave as Terry suggests, = the batteries are user replacable anyway. I had to send mine to get new batteries and they replaced = it, iI know that if anything goes wrong with it they will replace it = forthwith again for me. Ok, I understand, talking books is a very accessable and = good service, so I shall stick to loaning the machines and pay the extra = =A320, thank goodness you jogged my wooden brain into thinking Christine = W.mode! lol ----- Original Message ----- From: "roger south" <roger.south@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 10:44 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: portable DAISY player So in 10/12 years you will break even on the capital outlay of the = player you bought. Is it likely they will last that long? In my view not very likely so buying a player will cost more than renting one from the RNIB Roger Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once. ----- Original Message -----=20 From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 8:32 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: portable DAISY player > Hi Christine, > > It makes sense now to purchase your own player, since the Talking Book > subscription is 20 quid off if you do.
