For more-or-less standard HPR type rockets, something like this might be

I'm working on a small HPR (I-L) that will use one to connect the apogee
deployment charge once the rocket is vertical on the pad (will power
avionics on during vehicle assembly on the flightline to establish GPS
lock). They're super durable and tough, unlike the featherweight screw
switches (the soldered on nut can pop off if you're heavy handed,
and Phillips head screws suck) or most miniature switches from electronics
stores (which don't carry high current well).
Ordering them from Canada via DHL is an annoyance... but the CAD is free to
download, it wouldn't be hard to make your own.

I was contemplating building some FET switches that turn On when
a jumper is removed, so the mechanical failure mode is on, not off...
Seems like unneeded added complications.....
On my Blue and silver I had no switches the Avionics were turned on by
connecting the battery.

I'm less fond of that approach when pyro charges and pressure changes from
sliding
sections together are involved....
