Hi Adele,

As I used to be a professional actress I think I can reply ...sometimes you
were given a part in a play WITHOUT auditioning because the director or the
producer KNEW your work and knew that you would be right for the part. The
first time that that happened to me I was absolutely delighted because
auditions are harrowing ordeals. It was also frustrationg when someone else
got the part that you know you could have done but audtions weren't
held!!!!!!!

I think you have to remember too, that nerves play a part. And sometimes the
teacher may not "perform" as expected but there may be a real gem. So you
have too look for that something that lies there and rely, I believe, on
your gut feeling!

If you have been trained in drama schools etc. improvisation is not the
hardest part..it is challenging...the hardest part is delivering a
performance show after show, that has all the magic of an opening night.
The plays I did were never long running epics, 6 months was max. (This is in
South Africa. And if it was with the Arts Council, then a month to two was
maximum. The key word was and is "discipline."

Hope you don't mind, but theatre was for a long time, very much a part of
me. And is as a teacher. i always chuckle when i think that I have an
audience who don't want to be there but!
