Hello all! I have now received an e-mail informing me about the online HOTS course being given this summer. I do not wish to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the new program, as so much has already been said and I think we are missing the main point. What I am trying to understand is why many IRGUN teachers have already taken the course and why others are planning to do so this summer. So many of us have complained that yet again we are being asked to do more work which we are not being compensated for. However, we are enabling the powers that be to continue with their plans by actually taking the course. IF NO ENGLISH TEACHER WERE WILLING TO TAKE THE COURSE AND START TEACHING THE NEW PROGRAM, WITHOUT KNOWING FOR SURE THAT THEY WOULD BE COMPENSATED, (AS ARE ALL TEACHERS IN OTHER HIGH SCHOOL SUBJECTS), THE PROGRAM COULD NOT BE STARTED. (not "yelling", just emphasizing!) As things stand, we have already quietly accepted all the extra hours we now work, according to the NBA. There may have been some complaints, nonetheless, it went through and we get no extra pay for the tens (if not hundreds) of hours extra we work each year. If we take the HOTs course, then the new program actually becomes fact. Is that what we want? We can not have it both ways- either we demand payment for being asked to take on even more hours than we now work, due to the projects and the literature portfolio in its present form, or we accept the new program, ignore the advice of the teachers union and continue to be * friers/* patsies. The choice is ours. We can't continue to both complain and quietly submit. Taking a stand!
