RE: [etni] The Irgun LetterRe-clarification:
1. I know that the teachers on the pilot program were paid to mark the logs (
a certain no. per hour) but there have been no assurances that teachers will
be paid to mark the reading logs for the Lit module and/or the no. of logs per
hour of marking for which they will be paid. We need clarification from the
Ministry IN WRITING regarding policy and compensation. We should remain
informed and vigilant.

2. It's irrelevant whether we are "forced"/offered courses this summer or this
coming year or 5 years from now if the Ministry is demanding that teachers take
these courses in order to teach the Lit. section for the Bagrut. This is a
requirement; replace the word "forced" with "mandatory" -- what's the
difference?

3. I haven't checked this out but I heard that L'shon teachers are being
compensated for taking a hishtalmut to prepare them for new L'shon
requirements. Shouldn't we receive the same?

I don't understand the aggressive responses to any critique of the new program;
don't we all want the same thing? To work for excellence and under excellent
conditions?

All the best,
Evrea

  Clarifications:

  1. Mitzi wrote: "No one is being forced to take the course this summer". She
is 100% right! You can take it after the holidays! (You COULD have taken it
last year!) There are only 4 summer courses running, and these were added in
response to demand FROM THE FIELD, to allow teachers who wish to do so, to take
advantage of the relative "down" time they have during the summer months to
take the course instead of taking it next year. It was NOT in the original
plan. it was in response to teachers' requests.

  2. No one is "stopping" anyone from arguing for our right to compensation, NO
ONE will be happier than me! But get your facts straight: teachers who do the
logs with their classes ARE paid as bagrut markers for the logs they mark!

So. I do NOT see what the problem is here! (Except that, after the Irgun
representative did NOT show up to that meeting that people worked SO hard to
organize, and get to, I would think teachers would understand how important
they really are to the Irgun, and understand how we are STILL being used as
pawns! As well as our students!)

What I CAN tell you also, is that people out there are working VERY hard to
adapt and adjust the training program to be LESS demanding and yet still enrich
the participants with what they need in order to prepare their students for the
new modules, and enrich them with English literature.

I don't really know why I am writing here, again. I guess I am a sucker for
punishment. I should learn to keep my mouth shut (or tie my fingers up).

  Adele
