Here is one response I received to my private e-mail address. In keeping with 
her privacy, I have omitted her name:
"I adore this poem and see no inconsistency with BC's ideas in reading out to 
the class any poem with as many funny voices and expression as you can muster 
for starters and let the kids ENJOY hearing it like the hive....
"
My response to her was the following:
I agree with you, .........
 I was DISAGREEING with the fact that Billy Collins claims it is better for the 
students to 'do it on their own'. SURE/MAYBE: IF they are native speakers, not 
Israeli ones. 
Therefore, I don't think this poem should be included in their 'reading/TESTING 
list. I am not at all happy with the poems/stories/lit. in general CHOSEN FOR 
US by people who are not IN MY classroom, so don't have to 'deal' with the 
level of pupils I have. Let THEM come in for a month of lessons and 'do' the 
lit. program material. They will be in for a big surprise,........... and NOT a 
happy one.
