I have found, until recently, Google Maps to be quite accessible and once I entered starting and ending points, got clear directions all the way.
Recently however, it seems that a Google update has caused problems in that, if I choose to explore a route before a trip, I am unable to find either a "back," "menu," or "close" button to get back to the main screen. Further, in all versions until my recent update, I cannot convince the app that I am a pedestrian. I believe one used to do this after selecting either cycling or transit, I'm thinking probably transit.
With the Sindero/TSI offering, I attempted to track a route from my home to another address. The suggested route would take me through intersections which, unless the stars and moon are perfectly aligned, I choose not to take for safety concerns. So, I purposefully whent the "safe" way. True to form, the Sendero offering indicated that it was recalculating route but rather than to give me information from where the Ap said it was recalculating, I received instructions to proceed in the opposite direction to which I was travelling until I reached the point where the Ap had made it's original ignored calculation. This feature has failed for me much more than it has succeeded. Until I can be convinced that some outstanding bugs and/or claims have been rectified, I'll stick to Blindsquare.
Blindsquare proves my life-long arguments that one does NOT have to be blind to learn and understand issues and requirements for blind mobility. Truth to tell, I have studiously avoided joining any of our Canadian naval gazing groups; I have received much more insightful help and understanding from my visual friends. Darn, come to think of it, I can't dredge up any blind friends in my mind at present. This could be cause I think of the person first, the so-called disability second.
In case I haven't been obvious enough, my most favourite, trusted, and reliable GPS hands down is by extremely far, Blindsquare. Damn, the developer has even offered support and help on this list to the lacking so-called blind-based program. Go figure!
