Hi Hope,
to answer your question.
If you walk the trip once while recording the replay, the system knows
that you made a turn.  When you create the route from that replay you
just recorded the system says oh ok, at this position she turned
right. we need to drop the right turn there.

If the replay does not go along streets the points will be
automatically numbered for you. IE turn right at waypoint 6.

Once the route is created you can go in and rename/delete any
waypoints you wish.

Some people may find it easier to create the route from the replay
then creating the route in real time while walking worrying about
traffic their dog/Cain etc.
