Hello Hope and ChrisAn excellent explanation, Chris. I too was worried about whether or not the replay would work in a difficult area. I have just come back from walking a route with my son that I recorded as a replay. For good measure I added some annotations at points like shelters or benches, but deliberately left some turning points blank just to see how it came out when I created a route from the replay. I listened in real time to the replay (while relaxing with a hot coffee after getting in from the cold), and it's nice to hear the annotations (with their boyng sound) along the way; any turns without annotations are, as Chris said, announced as turns.
I then created the route. Absolutely perfect, and, assuming you walk the same route back, you can just reverse the route to save you having to do it all over again.
I was surprised by the accuracy of the tracking, and it's very easy to edit the waypoints later.
I think summing up I would say:In creating a manual route you have to enter each waypoint yourself along the route, whereas in a replay file you can just walk the route, saving time (unless you want to add notes at some points while recording the route).
I'm very impressed. Dennis.

Hi Hope, to answer your question. If you walk the trip once while recording the replay, the system
knows
that you made a turn. When you create the route from that replay
you
just recorded the system says oh ok, at this position she turned right. we need to drop the right turn there.
If the replay does not go along streets the points will be automatically numbered for you. IE turn right at waypoint 6.
Once the route is created you can go in and rename/delete any waypoints you wish.
Some people may find it easier to create the route from the
replay
then creating the route in real time while walking worrying about traffic their dog/Cain etc.

Ok. I'm trying to understand the replay feature as well, and have a couple of questions. Chris, you said that, while creating a route replay, you don't need to worry about adding waypoints. I think this is extremely useful, but say for example, I was creating a route from one building to another on my college campus. IfI just walked the route, made the turns, etc, wouldn't I need to stop and name the waypoints even in replay? If I didn't and if they're not on the map, how would the system know what to name them? Sorry, but just trying to understand this feature to the fullest. Hope and Beignet

Hi,
Technically there's no difference between a manual route and aroutecreated from a replay file.
The main thing to remember is you walk the replay once then youtellthe system to create a route from the replay. You need not worry about stopping to add the waypoints in. Annotations aresomething youcan add in if you wish but they are not essential.
When the route is created from the replay the route goes whereyou go.if you are traveling across a field or in the woods neither the replay or the route created from the replay care, they go whereyougo.
Hope this helps.
Chris

Sorry if I'm being a little dense here, but what's the technical difference then between a route created from a replay (that you record as you go along with possible annotations which turn into waypoints) and a manual route (that you create by adding waypoints as you go along)? Is there an advantage of one over the other, or is it a case of how the route is tracked when followed?
I ask because part of my regular route from home has to avoid what the automatic route creator thinks I should do (due to poor mapping and a road that's now impassible for me due to erosion). I'd like to be able to bypass this without having to edit my routes. Not an absolute essential, it's just annoying to hear wrong information every time.
So in my situation would a route created from a replay be better?
Dennis.

Annotations can be written to GPS Replays by using SPACE with Won the BT and READ with W on the QT. Basically, a GPS Replay must be recording, annotations can be anything including a note about a park bench with a limit of 200 characters, when running a GPS Replay these annotations will be played back indicating its annotation with a message stating so and a sound and when a GPS Replay is made into a route that contains annotatios those annotations will be included as waypoints.

Another option would be a GPS Replay with annotations. Thenthat GPS Replaycan be made into a route complete with turns, waypoints andannotations.

Thank you, Chris for answer my question.
Replay was my first time experience. But it is NOT mypreferance. I do notlike the true time.
Do you have another suggestion relate to the bus route with POI?
