Yes, Apple opened SDK to produce speech on iOS7. Since I have BlindSquare
users who has also iOS5 or iOS6 and I also support languages that Apple
doesn't have, I have support both for iOS voices and Acapela. So, even iOS7
users can still use Acapela voices if they prefer to do so.
This indeed would allow Seeing Eye to implement background operation on
iOS7 devices. There is also another way to do it even with iOS5 and iOS6 by
sending local notifications. Since voiceover reads push notifications, also
local apps can cause phone to speak those. I have seen some apps doing
that, but user experience is much worse than having an app that has full
control what is spoken and when.
