I also sorely miss Nearby Explorer. For what it's worth, I don't believe the
learning curve for Nearby Explorer was too difficult. It was less than the
learning curve for any Windows Screen reader, in my experienced opinion. I
understand if financial limitations became too much. Maybe a subscription model
would have been good enough for some people. Many people would be upset, but
many people would not. But I am not a financial expert. All I know is that if
anyone is a decent Android or iOS user, he/she will be a decent Nearby Explorer
user. Well, I guess that's my opinion, actually. It's an opinion based on
experience, though. I teach O&M. Any of my clients who did not find Nearby
Explorer helpful seemed to be extremely limited in their understanding of their
smart phone's screen reader. I still have Nearby Explorer on my iPhone, but I
try to use it as little as possible so I can be with the times and the most
helpful to the most clients when it comes to GPS apps. But things truly can and
should improve with GoodMaps. I learned 4 college campuses on my own a few
years ago with the help of Nearby Explorer and my own Structured Discovery
skills. I asked a person or 2 for a little information, but that was about it.
My learning of these unfamiliar areas was expedited by Nearby Explorer. I
haven't found a single app that helps me as much as Nearby Explorer when it
comes to learning new areas. The frustrating thing is that GoodMaps Explore
could (And I hope it will) continue on the powerful path of Nearby Explorer. I
surely appreciate the indoor mapping expertise of the GoodMaps team. Thank you
for this. But I by no means believe that the GoodMaps Explore outdoor
navigation features are cutting edge at this time. I think this could change if
more users are involved in decision-making and app-development. The future can
be even brighter, and I hope it is.
Sincerely,
Ben

That's true. Still using near by on my android device.will continue to use
it till it dies. Still think that the good maps developers should have taken
the near by api's and built it into the added features and functionality of
good maps. That has been the opinion and point of view of lots of near by
users and don’t think ha twill change till good maps has a better
implementation and feature set of what near by had.
