Because you position dzen2 using -x / -y. Use -dock instead. For -dock you need
a recent SVN checkout of dzen2.

Excellent. Thank you. It's worked.
Now another problem arises is that the status bar is now only on workspace 1.
I've tried the following:

done | dzen2 -xs 2 -bg black -fg grey -fn fixed -dock
but it doesn't start X at all then.
