If he could make fpm work on his solaris box he could build rpms right there.

Great solution, but the OP did not want to build package for multiple
package manangers; the OP mentions only RPM. I still I do not
understand why the RPM has to be build in a solaris environment when
it is you can do in on CentOS platform (on native hardware or a guest
VM in VBox running in Solaris).
