Thanks. This worked:

$ mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile /tmp/movie.dat vcd://

 | Also, you can copy the CD with readcd or cdrecord and the file will 
 | directly play with mplayer.

mplayer can directly play from the VCD:

$ mplayer vcd://3  # This will play AVSEQ3.DAT
