The original poster might also want to check whether this is legal (copying
the movie on to another CD)

well, i could play them very well from harddisk. after copying through
Windows 2k, i booted in linux, mounted the windows partition and using
mplayer saw the whole movie.
The problem was copying the data from CD to harddisk thru linux. cp gave me
I/O error.
