HI ,
I have been facing slow disk access in my system .
And any time I do any write activity and along side carry on my work.
The system becomes very unresponsive.Sometimes even changing focus takes 3+
seconds.
Memory usage is not high neither is cpu usage.
Suspecting something to be wrong with the I/O.
I ran various hdparm options to diagnose.
DMA is on,
I found that the buffered disk reads are very slow compared to what it
should be , in both the PATA and SATA disks.
solar:/home/solar# hdparm -tT /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
Timing cached reads: 1260 MB in 2.00 seconds = 629.57 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 50 MB in 3.01 seconds = 16.61 MB/sec
solar:/home/solar# hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1238 MB in 2.00 seconds = 618.51 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 102 MB in 3.82 seconds = 26.67 MB/sec
Kindly help me fix this issue.
I am on debian lenny (64 bit)
AMD 64 2800+
