My wife corrected me as the junco's returned today - they are Oregon junco's - male's have obvious black cape. Counted six in the group and fun to watch and learn their behavior compared to the house sparrow. I'm assuming I'm the rare house feeding in the snow as all the neighborhood birds seem to be hanging out on my patio today. First time to see the local cardinal family and a couple of mourning doves. Also had never seen doves as a group chase grackles away. The mockingbird comes and tries to play king-of-the-hill and chase everyone away, but that doesn't last long. More than the usual number of finches on the thistle feeder. Tom Dolan
