KCSM (a secondary PBS station here in the SF Bay Area) will be shutting down it's analog transmitter this week. Ron From Don Hackler: Part 1- KCSM TV will be shutting down the analog transmission on channel 60 next Sunday night. We will only be running the digital transmitter on channel 43 after that. So far, Comcast, RCN, Astound/Saren, and Horizon cable systems have agreed to carry the KCSM digital transmission in lieu of the analog. Satellite providers DirecTV and Echostar/Dish Network will be carrying us as well. KCSM was unable to extend the lease on the San Bruno mountain transmitter site beyond June, so we are turning it off soon in order to dismantle the equipment and move out of the site on time. Anybody need a 60 kilowatt UHF transmitter, antenna, and feedline? :) All you need is 300 amps of 440 volt 3-phase power to fire it up! The building and tower KCSM is vacating on San Bruno Mountain is where KNTV is planning to move when they get FCC approval. Part 2- The new digital transmitter is channel 43 on Sutro. It's been running for almost a year. Channel 43-1 is a duplicate of what is on channel 60 analog. In fact, since January, the analog transmitter has actually been retransmitting 43-1 as received off-air from Sutro. There won't be a new analog transmitter on 60 (unless we get a new place to transmit from...) The channel branding, both physical and logical, will be channel 43 in the future... The digital power level from Sutro is normally fairly high, but the seismic retrofits have been requiring the digital transmitter to run at very low power levels during construction. As far as I know, we are among the first ten stations nationwide to shut down analog operations, and we are probably the first in a major market to do so. We appear to be the first digital-only local station to be carried on the satellite providers. - Don Mark Schubin wrote: > - WRNN in Kingston, New York has requested permission to shut down its > analog transmissions, keeping only digital: > <http://www.tvtechnology.com/dlrf/one.php?id=431> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
