With UHDTV we need 4 times that 4K datarate. So you would need to aggregate two channels to do it. This option was considered in the work for DVB-T2 (superMUX/TFS), but it is not officially part of the current standard. However, you will appreciate that the resulting channel bandwidth of 16 Mhz would be even larger than what was once allocated for analog 819 lines (14 Mhz) , though perhaps there would be enough room left to shoe in an additional 2k HD program. There would be the possibility to use existing channels and tuners, and just use the data from two of them, but some efficiency would be gained by having tuners with 16 Mhz channel capability. It remains to be seen if such a scheme would be accepted by broadcasters, but yes, surprisingly, from a technical point of view it seems UHDTV over DTT is not unthinkable. However, the link gives no real clue as to how much degradation in picture quality is produced by this compression ratio. The photos shows flat panel displays, one would need to see it on large cinema screens. Would it still be ok for UHDTV ? "Manfredi, Albert E" wrote: >Funny how that worked out.
