Be careful of what you wish for. There's a crop of 1080-line HDV and HD P2
camcorders out there with 1/3-inch imagers. Most of them are f/1.6 (the range
is f/1.4 to f/1.8). For red light of 630 nm wavelength, a 1/3-inch 16:9
1080-line imager starts being diffraction limited at f/1.8.

1080 lines on a 2/3-inch HD imager is 100 line pairs per millimeter. On a
1/3-inch imager, it's 184 lp/mm. What are often considered the best HD lenses
ever made, those for the old one-inch-format 1035-line cameras, had to deal
with just 66 lp/mm.

Format numbers do not good pictures make.

TTFN,
Mark
