A clear niche is the crowd that works at bars & restaurants; they usually miss prime time. I've seen estimates that these folk make up about 3% of the population. A percentage of these folks time-shift; not 2% of the populace or 2% of viewing hours, but a significant number. Most of the people I have known who have done much time-shifting, however, aren't interested in time-shifting prime time: they're mostly interested in the soaps. I even knew somebody who had two VCRs to record competing soaps at the same time. They would spend prime time watching their soaps, but sometimes they got behind. I suspect that these kinds of folks have already adopted Tivos: it's ideal for time-shifters. I think there will be much resistance as long as network TV mostly means "fresh" programs.
