I knew about COFDM since reading stories about it in trade publications in
1995 or maybe even early.  This was part of all the reply comments to the
FCC's notice of proposed rulemaking (or whatever it's called).

I also recall Gary Demo's layered coding proposal, and DTS's software audio
CODEC proposal.
