NO. It is simply a question of market history. WCJB has had the ONLY local news for more than two decades ( with a little news coming out of the University PBS station as a trainging platform for the kids in the College of journalism. The college does provide some local news inserts to Cox for insertion into CNN.
But the market is barely able to support one news operation. Trying to compete with WCJB would require too large an investment to gain significant market share, and in turn this would dilute the audience for both.
