It does not take any stroke of genius to build a box that can support integrally ATSC, cable, and DBS standards. But there's no one to enforce such a solution. So, anyone trying to build such boxes will only cause the provider networks to stick a wrench in the works, to restore what they perceive as the natural world order. Most consumers, and even the pundits, are content to the point of hostility, should anyone threaten the status quo. (Witness how the FCC was so often made out to be the bad guy when the Powell FCC tried to get a voluntary provider-agnostic TV standard going. Even by the pundits, even by the CEA. Amazing cluelessness.) BTW, the CEO of Verizon again downplayed any imminent iPhone option. They're focusing on Droid for now. http://www.rethink-wireless.com/2010/09/23/no-verizon-iphone-yet-plenty-us-lte-activity.htm Bert ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
