Lanterns tend to be oil-fuelled, so they will 'catch' light more easily than,
say, a torch. So I
don't see why a Tinderbox should be required to light it. See 'Wick Lamp'
heading here:

I see, but how could it be lighted? If there is only oil and wick, some mean of
lighter is needed,
isn't it?

Hmm. Well, after talking to someone with more experience of oil lamps and other privations (hi, dad!), it seems that oil-burning Lanterns would still need some kind of flame to light the wick. Are there any instances in Books 7-12 where you are given the opportunity to use a Lantern? Should we add that you will need a Tinderbox to light the Lantern?
